On Thursday Feb 28, twenty  OTOC and community leaders met at Urban Abbey with Duane Hovorka of the Nebraska Wildlife Federation, who led an engaging discussion about the requirements of the EPA Clean Power Plan that Nebraska will have to meet by 2019. The audience had many questions but came away with a good understanding of how important this plan is to the future of the environmental sustainability of our state.

Two Hearings on the Clean Power Plan

Plan to attend these important meetings to learn more about and testify in support of the Clean Power Plan:

Tuesday, Feb 23    in Omaha at Malcolm X Memorial Foundation, 3448 Evans Street

Wednesday, Feb 24     in Lincoln at Country Inn and Suites, 5353 N. 27th St

Meetings take place from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 pm at each location.  Poster session from 1 to 2:30 and 6:00 to 7:30 Brief Presentation & Public Comment period from 2:30 to 4 pm and 7:30 to 9 pm  

LB 802: Sustainability Task Force 

Leaders also discussed several key bills that are pending in the Nebraska Unicameral, including LB 802, which would create a Sustainability Task Force to examine how to help our state adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The public hearing on LB 802 is Wednesday February 3 at 1:30 p.m. The OTOC Environmental Sustainability Team has endorsed this bill encourages you to write or call members of the Health and Human Services Committee and your member of the Unicameral to vote this bill out of committee.
