Welcoming the Stranger: Immigration & Faith
What does The Episcopal Church, and Anglicanism more broadly, have to say about immigration, and what are the current challenges facing our community?
Join us at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, September 8th, from 7:00-8:30PM for an evening of reflection, education, and faith-driven dialogue.
About the Program
The Rev. Michael Heller, Priest-in-Charge of St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church in Omaha will walk us through what our Episcopal / Anglican tradition has to teach us about a Christian response to immigration and what it means to "welcome the stranger" in our midst.
In addition to exploring the theological foundations of migration, this program will offer a look at the local landscape, including:
-
Demographics: Information on immigrant populations currently living in Nebraska.
-
The Journey: An exploration of "open and closed" pathways to migration.
-
Local Stories: Insight into the lived experiences of refugees and immigrants within our own city.
St. Andrew's Commitment
St. Andrew's has a proud history of supporting families in need through outreach efforts in our community, including assisting with the resettlement of refugee families from Iraq & Afghanistan.
In collaboration with members of St. Andrew's, Omaha Together One Community (OTOC), Church of the Resurrection and St. Martin's, this event bridges the wisdom of Episcopal Faith with practical information. Our goal is to empower parishioners to make a positive, faith-based response to the challenges facing our neighbors today.
From The Bishops of The Episcopal Church
"Safety built on fear is an illusion. True safety comes when we replace fear with compassion, violence with justice, and unchecked power with accountability. That’s the vision our faith calls us to live out—and the promise our country is meant to uphold." > — Episcopal Bishop's Joint Letter: Who's Dignity Matters?
